Case Studies and Feasibility Studies

A Hydraulic Fracturing Case Study

For this case study we provide three contributions to discuss and summarize technological steps from pre-processing to interpretation of microseismic data:

  1. Estimates of fracture geometry and fluid transport properties from hydraulic fracturing induced seismicity
  2. Location of Induced Microseismic Events Using a Single Vertical Borehole Array
  3. Interpretation of New Locations and Comparative Analysis of Fracture Geometry and Fluid Transport Properties

This case study is based on an industrial data set provided by one of our sponsors. We demonstrate the possibility of processing and interpreting hydraulic fracturing induced microseismicity with a low signal/noise ratio obtained from a restricted acquisition geometry. We provide work-flows for microseismic event localization as well as for determining fracture geometry and estimating hydraulic transport properties.
